George Yin

Dickey Fellow in U.S. Foreign Policy and International Security
Dartmouth College

Welcome! My work integrates rationalist and psychological approaches to study the ideational drivers of conflict.  I am particularly interested in examining (1) how actors come to acquire beliefs and identities that drive their foreign policy and (2) the strategic logic of ideational violence. I explore these two themes in a variety of contexts.

Current projects focus on nationalism, religious terrorism, and extremism in cyberspace. I have methodological interests in game theory and machine learning.

My research has received support from the Tobin Project,

the Program on Negotiation (PON) at Harvard Law School, the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, and the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership, among others.

My policy writings have appeared in Foreign Affairs, The National Interest, and The Washington Post/ Monkey Cage, among others.

I hold a B.A. in political science and economics from Swarthmore, a MSc in political economy from the London School of Economics, and a Ph.D. in government from Harvard.
